Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the Rainbow Kids Yoga teaching style? What makes you guys special? A: We believe that kids learn best when they’re having fun! Each Rainbow Kids Yoga class is alive with games, stories, magical journeys, dance, acrobatics. We use music and song, lots of silly props, relaxation and visualization, meditation, breathing games, Mandala painting, flying yoga, Thai massage, and more! The kinesthetic, aural, visual, intra- and interpersonal aspects of each class help keep kids involved and focused while having fun.
We want to bring the health benefits of yoga and the joy the play into the lives of as many families as possible.
We also try to support our grads as much as we can by providing advice and mentoring after the training, listing our grads and making Teacher Pages on our website.
We aim to make this training accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of income or ability to pay. We fund our own financial aid program, including work exchanges, payment plans and scholarships, for people for whom the training would be financially impossible otherwise. Q: Will this course certify me to teach yoga for kids? A: By the end of the 3-day intensive, we believe participants will have the tools they need to teach Kids and Family Yoga classes. Graduates will receive a Kids and Family Yoga Teacher certificate from Rainbow Kids Yoga at the end of the course. There is no umbrella organization that regulates Kids Yoga teacher training courses specifically.
Our course is recognized by the Yoga Alliance, and Yoga Alliance registered yoga teachers are able to use the hours from our course for the Yoga Alliance continuing education credits. Our graduates are teaching in both public and private sectors in the US and internationally.
Q: Do I have to be a yoga teacher to do the course? A: No. Our training is open to anyone who loves yoga and loves working with children. We highly recommend that trainees have a regular yoga practice, but it is not necessary to be a yoga teacher. Yoga for kids is very different from adult yoga (it’s much more playful, and much more fun!).
Our style of Kids Yoga is full of songs, games, imagination and creativity. It utilizes aspects of many disciplines besides hatha/vinyasa yoga, including partner yoga, flying yoga, Thai massage, acrobatics, inventive group games, music, dance and art. We encourage our trainees to bring their own experiences, abilities, and interests into their classes.
Q: How can I bring a training to my area?
A: Send us an email! We’ll check out the possibilities in your area.
Our schedule for 2010 is basically booked, but we are beginning to schedule trainings for early 2011.
A: We travel a lot, so usually email is the easiest way to reach us, but you can also call us at (646) 797-3226 and we will do our best to return your call promptly.
